Customer Activity Tracking
The Advanced Reporting addon automatically tracks what your customers do when they visit your galleries. Every gallery view, favorite, cart addition, and search is recorded so you can understand how clients interact with your photos.
What Gets Tracked
The following customer actions are recorded automatically:
- Gallery views — when a customer opens a gallery
- Image views — when a customer views an individual image (including in the lightbox)
- Favorites — when a customer adds or removes a favorite
- Comments — when a customer leaves a comment on an image
- Add to cart — when a customer adds an item to their cart
- Cart updates — when a customer modifies their cart
- Shares — when a customer shares an image
- Searches — what a customer searches for within a gallery, including the search term and number of results
- Free downloads — when a customer downloads a free image or gallery
- Orders — when a customer completes an order
- Logins — when a customer logs in
How It Works
Tracking starts as soon as the addon is activated. There's nothing to configure — it runs in the background whenever a customer interacts with your galleries.
A few details worth knowing:
- Admin users are not tracked. If you're logged in as an administrator, your activity won't appear in the reports. This keeps your data clean.
- Gallery and image views are counted once per session. If a customer views the same gallery or image multiple times in a single visit, it's only recorded once. This prevents inflated view counts.
- Guest activity is linked when they log in. If a customer browses as a guest and then logs in or creates an account, their earlier activity is connected to their customer profile.
Viewing the Customer Timeline
To see a specific customer's activity history:
- Go to Sunshine > Customers in your WordPress admin
- Click on a customer's name to open their profile
- Look for the Timeline section
The timeline shows every tracked action in chronological order, grouped by date. Each entry includes the action type, the gallery or image involved, and the time it happened. This gives you a complete picture of how that customer has interacted with your galleries over time.
Notes
- Tracking data is stored in your WordPress database and does not send any information to external services.
- The timeline only includes activity that occurred after the addon was activated. It won't retroactively track past visits.
