Profit Tracking
The Advanced Reporting addon lets you track profit, not just revenue. By entering what each product costs you (lab fees, printing costs, etc.), you can see your actual margins on every order.
Setting Product Costs
To start tracking profit, you need to tell Sunshine what each product costs you to fulfill:
- Go to Sunshine > Products and click on a product to edit it
- Find the Cost field
- Enter the amount you pay to produce that product (e.g., your lab cost for an 8x10 print)
- Save the product
Repeat this for each product you sell. Once costs are set, Sunshine will calculate profit automatically on future orders.
Viewing the Profit Report
Go to Sunshine > Reports and click the Profits tab.
The report displays a line chart showing your profit over time. You can view it by day or by month, and filter by date range to focus on a specific period.
Below the chart, you'll see your average profit per order for the selected date range. This is a quick way to gauge whether your pricing and product mix are generating healthy margins.
Profit on Individual Orders
When you view an individual order in Sunshine > Orders, the order totals section includes the profit for that specific order. This is calculated by subtracting the total product costs from the order revenue.
Profit in Exports
If you use the Exports addon, profit data is automatically included when you export orders. Each row in the export includes a profit column, making it easy to analyze margins in a spreadsheet.
Notes
- Profit calculations are based on the product costs that were set at the time the order was placed. If you update a product's cost later, it won't change the profit shown on existing orders.
- The profit report only includes paid orders.
- Profit calculations reflect product revenue minus product costs. They do not factor in shipping charges, taxes, or payment processing fees.
