Sunshine Photo Cart 3.8.1 is now available, along with updates to Cloud Storage, Digital Downloads and Volume Galleries. The biggest addition is that Sunshine can now check the folders your galleries came from and bring in any new photos you add to them.
Check folders for new photos
If you add photos to a gallery over time, like an event that runs several days or a school gallery that keeps growing, you've had to go back and import each new batch by hand. Sunshine can now do that when you turn on Check folders for new photos under Sunshine > Settings > Galleries and choose every hour, twice a day or once a day. Any gallery made from an FTP folder then gets the photos you add to that folder later, with the same watermark choice you made when you first imported it.
New photos are the only thing it touches, so a photo you delete from a gallery stays out and a photo you remove from the folder stays in the gallery.
This works with cloud folders too, if your galleries came from a bucket through Cloud Storage and Volume Galleries. Sunshine reads the bucket a thousand files at a time, so checking thousands of galleries takes a few dozen requests instead of one per gallery. I built it with volume photographers in mind, where one site can have a huge number of galleries.
If you import with your own pre-made thumbnails, each gallery remembers that, so new photos come in with their pre-made sizes and a photo waits for the rest of its set if the folder is still uploading. Cloud folders need Cloud Storage 3.1.10 and Volume Galleries 3.3.1, and the volume galleries doc has the details.
Regenerate several galleries at once
You can now regenerate several galleries at once by ticking the ones you want on the Galleries list and choosing Regenerate Images from the Bulk actions menu. If a gallery has sub-galleries, Sunshine asks whether to do those too.
Regenerating is also more careful with your files now. Thumbnail and large sizes are made at their real size, the watermark never lands on your original, and if you use Cloud Storage and a local file has changed, Sunshine rebuilds the photo from the original in your bucket. The Regenerate Images doc covers each way to run it.
Signed add-on updates
Every add-on update is now checked for my signature before your site will install it, so even if someone broke into the update server, they couldn't push a bad add-on to your site. You don't need to set anything up for this. It's part of the security work I started in 3.8, and I'd rather have this protection in place long before anyone needs it.
Other improvements
- Cloud Storage 3.1.10: Reclaim Local Storage now frees up the space from photos whose local file has changed since upload, along with sizes left behind after the original is gone. Bunny Storage reports file sizes, so its cloud copies are confirmed before anything relies on them.
- Digital Downloads 3.3.7: When the copy on your server has changed, buyers get the confirmed original from cloud storage. The Entire gallery link now shows on main galleries that only hold sub-galleries.
- Import from FTP folder finds .jpeg and .png photos, the same as browser uploads, and works with folder names that have brackets.
- Polylang sites with media translation on show all of a gallery's photos in every language.
- Sunshine now needs WordPress 5.9 or newer.
