Gallery Administration Options
The Administration Options section in your gallery settings controls how Sunshine handles image files behind the scenes — specifically what happens when galleries are deleted and whether gallery images appear in the WordPress Media Library.
Where to Find These Settings
- Go to Sunshine > Settings > Galleries
- The Administration Options section is at the top of the page
Remove Images
Setting name: Remove images
When enabled, permanently deleting a gallery will also delete all of its associated image attachments and files from your server. This includes the original uploads, thumbnails, and all intermediate image sizes.
This only applies when a gallery is permanently deleted (emptied from the trash) — not when it's simply moved to the trash.
Default: Enabled
Delete FTP Folder
Setting name: Delete FTP folder
When enabled, permanently deleting a gallery will also remove the source folder and images that were uploaded via FTP, if FTP was used to create the gallery. This cleans up the original import directory so you don't accumulate unused files on your server.
This setting only has an effect if the Remove images setting is also enabled, since both are processed together when a gallery is permanently deleted.
Default: Disabled
Show Images in Media Library
Setting name: Show images in Media Library
By default, Sunshine hides all gallery images from the WordPress Media Library. This keeps the Media Library clean and focused on your non-gallery content, since galleries can contain hundreds or thousands of images that would otherwise clutter the library.
When enabled, gallery images will appear alongside your regular media files in Media > Library. This can be useful if you need to reference gallery images in blog posts or other WordPress content, but it may significantly slow down the Media Library if you have many galleries.
Default: Disabled
Notes
- The Remove images and Delete FTP folder options only trigger when a gallery is permanently deleted from the trash. Moving a gallery to the trash does not delete any files.
- Image deletion runs as a background process, so large galleries won't cause timeouts during deletion.
- Even with Show images in Media Library disabled, gallery images still appear in the media picker when you're editing a gallery in the admin — the filtering only applies to the main Media Library screen.
- The Delay image processing setting also appears in this section but is covered in its own article.
