Watermark images are not updating

If you change the watermark after you have uploaded images, all the previously uploaded images will not be automatically updated. However, you can update them very easily by regenerating the images.

• Add/update your watermark
• Go to Sunshine > Tools > run the process to regenerate your thumbnail images. It might take a little while if you have a lot of images.

These steps are required because watermark images are not dynamically added to each image as the page loads, instead they are permanently added to the image from the original and saved to your server. Regenerating the images will recreate the proper image sizes Sunshine needs and apply the new watermark at the same time.

If Sunshine asks about watermark settings before it starts

Individual images can be marked so that Sunshine leaves their watermark alone. If any of your images are marked that way and you also have a watermark set in your settings, the regenerate tool stops and asks what you want to do before it starts:

• Apply watermark to all images clears that mark on every image and stamps your watermark on all of them.
• Keep current image watermark settings leaves the mark in place, so those images are skipped.

If you choose "Keep current image watermark settings" and all of your images carry that mark, the tool will work through every image and finish with "Done!" without changing a single one. Choose "Apply watermark to all images" when what you want is your new watermark on everything.

Photos imported from cloud storage

If you imported photos from Wasabi, Amazon S3, Backblaze or another storage provider, and those photos came with thumbnails you had already made yourself, Sunshine marks every one of them "do not watermark" on purpose. You made those thumbnails, so Sunshine uses them exactly as they are rather than rebuilding and stamping them.

So for a library imported that way, the regenerate tool will always ask the question above, and you have to choose "Apply watermark to all images" to get your watermark onto those photos.

Test on one gallery first

Regenerating a large library takes a long time, especially when your photos live in cloud storage, because every photo has to be downloaded, rebuilt and uploaded back again. Before you start a run across everything, try a single gallery:

1. Go to Sunshine > Galleries
2. Hover over one gallery row and click Regenerate Images
3. Choose Apply watermark to all images
4. Open that gallery and look at the photos

Once you can see the new watermark there, run the tool over the rest of your images from Sunshine > Tools.

Do not upload or import photos while a regeneration is running. The tool works through your library by position, so adding photos partway through shifts everything after them and some can be missed.
